Missouri-Western Michigan basketball preview

6 p.m. Sunday at Mizzou Arena in Columbia

The Broncos are coming off a 51-35 loss at Northwestern, a game in which they trailed 24-12 at halftime. Western Michigan was picked to finish second in the Mid-American Conference West Division by media and Shayne Whittington was a preseason all-division selection.

The Tigers jumped into the polls this week, No. 24 in the Associated Press. Mizzou’s home floor winning streak is to 24 games, the best active streak in the country, and its streak against nonconference opponents at home stands at 79. Missouri’s previous two victories, over West Virginia and UCLA, were by the same score, 80-71.

It’s the first meeting between the programs, which have a common opponent. Missouri beat Hawaii at the Sprint Center, 92-80. Western Michigan lost to the Rainbow Warriors, 78-68. The Broncos bring a talented post player in Whittington, who averages a double-double. The Tigers haven’t played in eight days, so it may take a while to get recharged, but Missouri should stay perfect.
