Missouri volleyball team wraps up undefeated regular season

Missouri completed its first undefeated regular season in volleyball and the first perfect year by a Southeastern Conference team Wednesday night in Columbia.

The Tigers, ranked fourth, finished 34-0 and 18-0 in the SEC after a 25-11, 25-16, 29-27 sweep of Arkansas in front of 7,437 at the Hearnes Center on senior night. MU only lost eight of 110 sets and never faced a fifth set on the year.

MU seniors Lisa Henning of Blue Springs and Molly Kreklow won their 96th match.

“Now that the regular season is over and you can take time to look back, it really is an unbelievable achievement to play that well, that consistent, for that long,” MU coach Wayne Kreklow said. “On another note, I am really happy that this season happened during Molly and Lisa’s senior year. Those kids have put in so much to the program and it couldn’t have been a better regular season. Undefeated, SEC champions. Now we focus on the NCAA Tournament and hopefully we can keep this going. Trust me, this group is hungry for more.”

Missouri clinched a automatic NCAA Tournament berth when it wrapped up the conference title three matches ago. The bracket will be revealed on Sunday and the team will play host to a watch party starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Clinton Club in Mizzou Arena.
