Early look at potential replacements for Anderson

Who will replace Mike Anderson at Missouri? Here are some possible candidates:

Cuonzo Martin, Missouri State

Let’s declare him the leading candidate. Martin is an East St. Louis, Ill., native who went 26-8 at Springfield this season.

Matt Painter, Purdue

He has a great gig coaching at his alma mater, so why would he leave? He makes $1.3 million, and how much was Mizzou willing to pay to keep Anderson?

Brad Stevens, Butler

He’s the hottest young coach in the business and in no hurry to leave the program he took to the 2010 national title game and this year’s Sweet 16. Doesn’t hurt to try.

Gregg Marshall, Wichita State

Up-and-comer who has taken Winthrop and Wichita State to the postseason. He’s been linked to other jobs in the East.

Shaka Smart, VCU

Smart, 33, would endear himself to the Tigers if his Rams can deny KU a Final Four trip this weekend.

Others who might listen to Mizzou:

Anthony Grant, Alabama

Josh Pastner, Memphis

Randy Bennett, St. Mary’s

Tad Boyle, Colorado

Brian Gregory, Dayton
