LAWRENCE | Kansas is the No. 1 seed in the Southwest Regional and play No. 16 seed Boston University in its NCAA Tournament opener at 5:50 p.m. Friday in Tulsa, Okla. The game will air on TBS. If the Jayhawks advance, they would face the winner of No. 8 seed UNLV and No. 9 seed Illinois.
A third-round game against the Fighting Illini would set up the first meeting between Illinois and Kansas since KU coach Bill Self left Illinois for Kansas in 2003.
To get to that game, the Jayhawks will have to erase the Curse of the 'B's. In 2005, Kansas lost to Bucknell in the first round. A year later, the Jayhawks fell to Bradley.
The Southwest Regional will be played in San Antonio. No. 2 seed Notre Dame, No. 3 seed Purdue, No. 4 seed Louisville, No. 5 seed Vanderbilt, No. 6 seed Georgetown and No. 7 seed Texas A&M round out the likely teams to join Kansas on the Riverwalk.
Ohio State is the No. 1 overall seed and will play out of the East Regional. Pittsburgh is the No. 1 seed in the Southeast Regional, and Duke is the No. 1 seed in the West Regional.
