Former Olathe South star Kylee Kopatich led the way for Kansas on Sunday in a 72-36 victory over Rhode Island at Allen Fieldhouse.
Kopatich, a sophomore, scored a career-high 19 points and had five steals for the Jayhawks (4-5).
Junior Jessica Washington had 17 points, and senior Timeka O’Neal added 12 points. O’Neal, who went to Raytown High, made four of eight three-point attempts.
It was the first time Kansas had held an opponent under 40 points since limiting California to 39 points in 2014.
The only place the Jayhawks seemed to have trouble was the free-throw line. KU made just 12 of 25 from the line.
Rhode Island (4-7) hit just 29 percent of its shots. Junior Charise Wilson led the Rams with 12 points but made only 5 of 20 shots.
Kansas got off to a slow start and trailed 7-6 after the first quarter. The Jayhawks heated up in the second period, outscoring the Rams 30-10.
The Jayhawks’ next game will be noon Saturday against Arizona.
