Chris Klieman is still searching for ways to make Kansas State better at running back next season, and the Wildcats appear to have found a recruit capable of helping at that particular position of need.

Jacardia Wright, a 6-foot athlete from Decatur, Illinois, has committed to play for K-State next season and plans to sign with the team at a school ceremony on April 24.

Wright will join the Wildcats after a tremendous high school career that featured 8,821 rushing yards and three Macon County Player of the Year awards. He rushed for 2,609 yards on 219 carries as a senior, adding 55 total touchdowns for the St. Teresa Bulldogs.

He held scholarship offers from several Big Ten schools, including Purdue, Minnesota, Iowa and Michigan State, but many of the coaches who recruited Wright wanted him to play linebacker in college.

K-State offered an opportunity at his preferred position.

“It means a lot,” Wright told the Herald & Review. “I love running back. That’s what I want to do and I’m glad I got to pick a college where they actually accept me for what I want to do.”

The Wildcats have major holes to fill in their backfield after losing Alex Barnes, Justin Silmon, Dalvin Warmack and Mike McCoy in the same offseason.

Klieman has made the position a priority on the recruiting trail. K-State added Ball State transfer James Gilbert this semester and is set to add incoming freshmen Joe Ervin, Thomas Grayson and Clyde Price this summer.

It seemed like those additions would be enough for next season, but Klieman had other plans.

Wright took an official recruiting visit to K-State earlier this month and the Wildcats sold him on trying to help their backfield next season.
