Semifinalists for the 2016 James Beard Awards, the “Oscars of the food industry,” were announced this week, and the list included two local chefs and a local restaurant.
Patrick Ryan, chef at Port Fonda in Westport, is a semifinalist in the Best Chef: Midwest category. Ryan was a semifinalist in the same category in 2015.

Jonathan Justus of Justus Drugstore in Smithville was also named a semifinalist for Best Chef: Midwest.
Bluestem, owned by Megan and Colby Garrelts, is a semifinalist for Outstanding Restaurant. Colby Garrelts won the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Midwest in 2013, and Bluestem was a semifinalist in 2015 for Outstanding Restaurant.
