‘Tis the season for the Kappa Kappa Gamma Holiday Homes Tour. And our gift to you is an insider’s look at these fabulous homes from the 2015 tour, decked out in holiday finery by some of Kansas City’s finest floral designers
“We knew right away that we weren’t going to go with traditional greens and reds,” says The Fiddly Fig’s John Brant of the decoration of Kurt and Christy Hartner’s home. The newer home’s Prairie-style design called for a different approach. While the main floor of the house is largely one big room, Brant used holiday decorations in coral, orange and white to draw the eye to the intimate seating areas.
Brant and his team looked for elements beyond fir and holly. “We used a lot of succulents and persimmons. The wreaths in the windows were made up of bay leaves.” Miniature trees in bold bronze bowls that graced the open spaces between the living room and the dining room were enhanced with succulents and hydrangea. “The Hartners entertain a lot but didn’t want it to be too formal. We gave them elegant designs that did not overpower,” Brant says.
