When Geri Higgins was hired to design a new kitchen in an old home, she discovered she would be working with a familial team.
“The children were doing the due diligence for their parents. They really wanted to make it easier for them,” says Higgins, who owns Portfolio Kitchen & Home.

The couple wanted to refresh a home they already loved but were ready for a new look and feel.
“The house is lovely. Before the renovation, it had an Old-World aesthetic,” says Higgins. “But the couple was ready for something lighter, more sophisticated, with an understated elegance.”
The designer recognized that this was a dynamic family that loved to cook and entertain. She designed the counter space with four stools to give plenty of room for family and friends to be a part of the activity, even if they weren’t part of the cooking.
New white cabinets and stainless steel appliances provide an elegant framework for a kitchen that performs like a workhorse. Higgins selected Caesarstone countertops for their combined appeal of beauty and functionality.
Beyond the kitchen itself, Higgins designed a pantry and storage for china and silver.
“It was a dream project,” says Higgins. “A wonderful family, a great home. We were honored to be a part of it.”
