David Kohler: Kohler is proud to be a privately held company for the last 140 years. We wanted to take another step and offer a place where it is easy to get the bath of your dreams. You can come in to the Kohler Signature Store and be inspired. And then you can talk through the practicalities with one of our professionals who really know each product. You can see and touch. And you can order a product right here. It’s a candy store of ideas.”
KCS: What are some of the high-end products Kansas Citians can see there?
DK: Artist Editions vessels sinks in different colors and patterns. We say ‘the finish is just the beginning.’ With Kallista, products that make plumbing look like sculpture, we say ‘live artfully.’ And of course with the amazing tiles from Ann Sacks for walls, floors, backsplashes, we say ‘live colorfully.’
KCS: And those mirrored cabinets by Robern!
DK: That’s what makes this store so special. You can really see how the designers of these products think of everything. Like magnets in the cabinets to hold all those little things like tweezers and nail clippers so you don’t have them lost in a drawer. Or a hidden USB port to recharge your phone while you’re shaving. The vanities and mirrors and cabinets are beautiful, but they’re also very practical.
KCS: There are just a few Kohler Signature Stores around the country—in the Minneapolis area, Los Angeles, Baltimore. Chicago, the Milwaukee area, and the Boston area. Why Kansas City now?
DK: Kansas City is an exciting market for us. People appreciate good design and good quality. This store is the most beautiful of our signature stores to date.
KCS: Why does it make sense to bring different brands together under the same roof?
DK: It’s more approachable and it lets people see how all of these parts can work together beautifully. It’s a go-to destination for both the trades and the consumer.
