Sara Nebbia and Nick Tarnowski say “I do” in a timeless West Bottoms wedding

It was January of 2011 when Kansas City native Sara Nebbia first met Nick Tarnowski while on a cruise. The two were on separate vacations, but it wasn’t long before their paths crossed again.

Two months after that first meeting, Sara visited Nick in New York, where he was living at the time, and their long-distance relationship officially began.

Four years later, Nick popped the question on the shores of Cozumel, Mexico, where Sara and her family were celebrating Sara’s graduation from pharmacy school and her sister’s 30th birthday.

“He decided to walk me down to the beach at sunset while my dad was behind a palm tree videotaping,” Sara says. “I was a little shocked and stunned.”

Although Sara hadn’t given much thought to her dream wedding, one element remained prominent in her decision-making: the guests.

“I think the most important thing was just to have all of our closest friends and family there, having a good time,” Sara says.

The couple said “I do” under a floral arch in an urban courtyard behind The Hobbs Building in the historic West Bottoms. A number of unique details were incorporated in their ceremony, including a reading of How Falling in Love is like Owning a Dog, by Taylor Mali.

“I wanted it to be different, and I wanted people to remember that,” Sara says.

The lush, green centerpieces by Good Earth Floral brought a touch of the outdoors to the newlyweds’ indoor reception, which featured accents of gold, navy and blush for a classic, timeless feel.

“We just wanted everyone there to be comfortable, have good food and drinks, and good music,” Sara says.

It was the little details, like the wooden “Cheers” sign by Lauren Heim and the metallic animals as place-card holders, that brought Sara’s vision full circle.

“Other people probably didn’t notice, but those are the things I loved,” Sara says.

The newly married couple and their guests enjoyed a meal by Feasts of Fancy and dessert by Next Level Cakery before they hit the dance floor to the sounds of The Patrick Lentz Band. And after months of preparation, Sara and Nick were finally able to bask in the joy of the celebration.

“It was just perfect,” Sara says. “We’d been planning it for so long and had been together so long, it felt like a dream. I couldn’t believe it was actually that day.”
