Take your lip color to the next level with hues inspired by fall runways
A red or plum lip isn’t exactly revolutionary for fall. But when the reds are opaque, almost matte, and (best of all) a cinch to apply, and the violets are so dark they border on black, they are. Both looks—seen on the fall 2016 runways—transition to the real world beautifully.
Dab classic cherry and garnet reds on with fingers or blot them with a tissue after applying to get a stained look like those at Proenza Schouler and Prada. If the outer corners aren’t totally even or the color is sheerer in the middle, let it be. It’s meant to be imperfect. What could be easier?

The show-stopping inky plums that had everyone talking after Dior’s show are bold, dark, and decadent—perfect anytime you want a luxe, polished look. To ensure lips look glamorous, not goth, top them with a clear gloss and keep the rest of your makeup minimal (like they did at Rodarte) or pair them with intense, spidery lashes (as seen at Dior).
These five lipsticks, glosses and pencils are your tickets to both looks.
1. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Infatuated Red $26

2. Shiseido Rouge Rouge Lipstick in Poppy $28 This lovely tomato yields even, opaque color in one swipe. Really.
