Hip-hop meets classical when the duo Black Violin comes to the Kauffman
Forget Bach and Vivaldi. You’ve never heard the violin played like this before. With an aim to change perceptions and shatter stereotypes, hip-hop duo Black Violin blends the sounds of new and old to create a truly original genre of music. The duo is composed of Wilner “Wil B” Baptiste on viola and Kevin “Key Marcus” Sylvester on violin—two classically trained artists who originally met in high school orchestra. The duo has come a long way since their high school days, opening for a variety of musicians, including Kanye West, Tom Petty and Aerosmith. Whether your musical tastes are hip-hop, pop, soul or rock—or run more true to the classical sounds associated with the violin—there’s something for everyone in a Black Violin performance. Catch them at the Kauffman on November 17.
