Fact-check the politician's speeches, but carefully

Multiple readers have asked for the same thing this week: The Star should fact-check statements in the speeches given at the GOP convention in Tampa. And no doubt I'll be hearing the same from the other side of the aisle when the Democratic Party's convention takes place next week. One of the great things about the Internet is the lightning-fast reaction to each and every bit of minutiae that a politician or consultant says in public. The downside, of course, is that the quicker the reaction, the more likely it is to be shallow or flat-out wrong
