Firearms do not need to be anywhere that people frequent, where arguments too easily can erupt in gunplay.

Three weekend object lessons in Kansas City standout: Derrick Wren, 42, was shot to death Saturday outside a bar at 57th Street and Troost Avenue after an argument before the shooting, The Kansas City Star reports. Wren was a father of three children and a warehouse worker.

He would be alive today, and his children and mother who was waiting for him to visit her Woodland Avenue house to pick up some food would have had their loved one with them if a gun had not been involved in an argument. It’s why liberal gun laws enabling more people to carry firearms openly or concealed make no sense.

Such laws only lead to more needless bloodshed and violence.

In another incident, 23-year-old Tashari Nelson was one of two women shot shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday in the 3700 block of Jackson Avenue. Nelson, who was a nurse, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and is not expected to recover. The other woman also was shot in the head but was expected to recover, The Star reports.

Nelson is a mother of three daughters, ages 6, 4 and 2. Her family is making arrangements for possible organ donations. She is hospitalized but has been declared brain dead by the Jackson County medical examiner.

This is such a senseless tragedy — all because of guns.

In the third case of people with guns doing stupid and dangerous things, two customers who argued about 1 p.m. Saturday inside a Kansas City clothing store at 63rd Street and the Paseo, pulled firearms on each other and started shooting. A third person in the City Gear store in the 1600 block of East 63rd Street also pulled his gun and began shooting.

When police arrived, none of the people with the guns was in the store. No one with gunshot wounds showed up at area hospitals. Store walls, the ceiling and merchandise, however, were shot full of bullet holes.

This wasn’t a National Rifle Association scenarios of a so-called good guy with a gun joining the melee. It was just a bunch of stupid people with firearms who only continue to make this city less safe for everyone.
