Kansas City library branches take on added responsbilities

People in Kansas City have more than books, tapes and computer access to check out at Kansas City Public Libraries.

A Seed Library has opened at the Irene H. Ruiz Branch, 2017 West Pennway, enabling patrons to get advice and even free seeds for planting this year, The Kansas City Star reports.

Starting Tuesday, the North-East Branch library at 6000 Wilson Road and the Lucile H. Bluford Branch library at 3050 Prospect Ave. will offer postal services to people. The U.S. Postal Service has been closing some branches and reducing hours at many others.

Having the libraries in underserved communities pick up the added duties of selling stamps, mailing packages and even offering post office boxes will benefit area residents.
