The World Series is showcasing not only the Royals and Kauffman Stadium for audiences but also Kansas City and some of its better qualities,
This isn’t the flyover place that a lot of East, West and mountain dwellers thought it to be. People elsewhere are starting to see what Jason Aldean sang about in “Fly Over States” and what Travel + Leisure magazine realized when it rated Kansas City tops in barbecue, craft beers, livability, antique stores, Christmas lights, affordability and even courteous drivers.
Of 38 cities rated on their travel and tourism attractions, Kansas City placed No. 3 overall behind Providence, R.I., and Houston, The Kansas City Star reports. The magazine ranked Kansas City No. 2 for passionate sports fans behind Pittsburgh.
But because of this area’s love for the Royals, Chiefs and Sporting Kansas City, it should have come in No. 1. The World Series — especially if the Royals win it all — will show the rest of the country the endless depth of what being a sports fan here is all about.
