I wonder if the Rally Sauce will make an appearance today.
During the Royals’ remarkable second-half run, Billy’s Hit It A Ton barbecue sauce wasn’t as prevalent as it had been in June. Seems quaint to recall when the players grabbed a bottle of the sauce in the dugout after something good happened on the field.
I asked Butler about the sauce on Sunday.
“It’s one of those things that was superstition,” Butler said. “We still have the shirts and everything like that. There’s no need for it to be there everyday. It was just a superstition that got us going.
“I’m not saying it’s going to happen, but if we lose a few games, I’ll take it back out there. You know what I mean? It’s a superstition thing. There’s no reason to change what’s been working of late, though. It has nothing to do with the sauce. it’s just a good team.”
Will two home losses to Miami mean the return of the sauce? Not necessarily. But we’ll see.
