Sunday in the minors: Duffy, Herrera, Coleman combine on shutout

Kelvin Herrera, Danny Duffy and Louis Coleman combined on a five-hit shutout Sunday as Class AAA Omaha beat Iowa 3-0.

Herrera gave up two hits in three innings and Duffy allowed three hits in 5 2/3 innings (with seven strikeouts). Coleman got the final out after Duffy gave up a two-out walk.

Duffy threw 87 pitches, including 53 strikes. Herrera had 31 strikes among his 49 pitches.

Anthony Seratelli had a two-run single in the first and Chris Getz added an RBI double an inning later for the Storm Chaser runs.

Class AA Northwest Arkansas

Cheslor Cuthbert had a double and a home run as the Naturals topped Frisco 8-5.

Roman Hernandez and Whit Merrifield each had three hits, and Merrifield drove in a pair and Hernandez scored three times. Brian Fletcher had two hits for the Naturals, who led 8-2 after seven innings.

Starter Sugar Ray Marimon allowed two runs on four hits in six innings with one walk and three strikeouts.

In his last four appearances, Marimon has allowed four earned runs in 22 innings (1.64 ERA).

Low-A Lexington

The Legends completed a suspended game from the night before and beat Hagerstown 11-1, but lost the regularly scheduled game 2-1.

In the first game, nine of the 10 Legends to play in the game had an RBI and all 10 had at least one hit. First baseman Mark Threlkeld was three for five, while left fielder Alex Hudak and center fielder Terrance Gore each had two hits.

Bubba Starling, who came on as a pinch runner, was one for one with a run scored, a sacrifice fly and a walk.

Aroni Nina, 5-3, got the win after allowing one run on two hits in four innings.

In the second game, Miguel Almonte tossed a five-hit complete game, albeit it was over six innings. He gave up five hits, walked one and struck out three. Catcher Cameron Gallagher hit a solo homer in the seventh for the Legends’ lone run.

Rookie advanced Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls scored two in the ninth and one in the ninth and rallied for a 6-5 win against Ogden.

It was 3-3 after seven innings, but Ogden scored two in the top of the eighth. In the bottom half, the Chukars got a run after an error and Hunter Dozier added a sacrifice fly. In the ninth, Dominique Taylor’s two-out single scored Daniel Rockett with the winning run.
