Friday's minor-league update: Fields homers in both ends of doubleheader

First baseman Matt Fields hit a three-run homer as part of a five-run third inning Friday as the Naturals beat Springfield 5-4 and salvaged a doubleheader split on the road.

Fields also had a homer in the opener, which Springfield won 6-4.

In the nightcap, Alex Llanos opened the inning with a double, and took third on a ground out. Orlando Calixte singled home Llanos and took second after Rey Navarro walked. Yem Prades’ infield single loaded the bases and Manny Pina got a run home on a ground out. Fields then homered.

The Cardinals got four runs in their sixth inning, but were unable to tie the game.

Matt Ridings pitched three scoreless innings of relief and got the victory.

In the opener, Sugar Ray Marimon save up six runs in four innings and took the loss.

Fields and third baseman Angel Franco each hit home runs for the Naturals, who had seven hits.

Class AAA Omaha

Designated hitter Max Ramirez and right fielder Anthony Seratelli each hit a two-run home run as Omaha won 6-2 at Reno.

Trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning, the Storm Chasers scored four runs, capped by Seratelli’s blast. With one out, second baseman Christian Colon and third baseman Johnny Giavotella each singled. Ramirez then singled home Giavotella, but Ramirez was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. Seratelli then homered to make it 4-1.

Ramirez’s two-run shot in the eighth made it 6-1.

Xavier Nady finished with three hits for the Storm Chasers, while catcher Adam Moore, Colon, Ramirez and Seratelli each had two hits.

Will Smith gave up six hits and one run in six innings with one walk and five strikeouts and got the victory. His ERA is 1.85.
