Royals Caravan kicks off Thursday

Ready to talk some baseball? This is your week. It’s Royals Caravan time, and several players and broadcasters will be traveling throughout Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska to meet with fans.

This year, fans can also help members of the military when they meet up with the caravans. The Royals have partnered with the USO chapters of Fort Riley and Missouri and will be collecting washcloths, toothbrushes, beef jerky, drink packets and pudding cups, which will be given to military personnel overseas. Fans are encouraged to bring thank-you cards for troops as well. Royals Charities plans to donate $1 to the USO for every card received at the caravans (up to $10,000.)

The caravans begin on Thursday with a private visit to The University of Kansas Hospital. After that stop, one caravan will go into Kansas, stopping in Auburn, Topeka, Manhattan, Salina and Wichita. The second caravan will head to Lincoln and Omaha before traveling to St. Joseph, Mo.

There will be additional caravan stops on Jan. 20-22, with further details later in the week.
