Billy Butler is the key to Royals turnaround

Clearly, the Royals’ woes can be easily fixed.

Billy Butler needs to hit more triples.

Butler had his fourth career triple Thursday night as the Royals routed the Orioles 8-2 in Baltimore.

The Royals are 3-1 in those games.

Thursday: Royals 8, at Baltimore 2

Sept. 1, 2009: Royals 4, at A’s 3

Aug. 30, 2007: Detroit 7, at Royals 1

Sept. 1, 2007: Royals 9, at Twins 4

The Royals have never lost a road game in which Billy Butler triples, so maybe he should try to stretch a double into a triple the next time around.

Of course, I'm not serious!

CYCLE TALK

As for falling short of the cycle, the Royals have seen that accomplished in six games in their history. It’s been done by four players.

Fred Patek, July 9, 1971: Royals 6, at Twins 3

John Mayberry, Aug. 5, 1977: Royals 12, White Sox 2

George Brett, May 28, 1979: Royals 5, Orioles 4, 16 inn.

Frank White, Sept. 26, 1979: Royals 4, at Angels 0

Frank White, Aug. 3, 1982: Royals 6, Tigers 5

George Brett, July 25, 1990: Royals 6, at Blue Jays 1
