The Missouri Highway Patrol searched a section of the Lake of the Ozarks Friday for an unknown number of missing boaters who remained unaccounted for after reportedly spilling into the water around 7 p.m.
Late Friday night, a patrol spokesman said the investigation by the agency’s water patrol was ongoing. The boaters were reported missing near the 10 mile mark on the Osage Arm of the lake.
The incident came the day before the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, which bills itself as the “largest unsanctioned boat race in the U.S.” was set to begin Saturday.
Divers were expected to continue the search Saturday morning, with state patrol boats enforcing a no-wake zone in the area starting at 7 a.m., according to the Lake News Online.
