A former Missouri school librarian was charged this week with felony stealing after reports say he allegedly stole more than $10,000 from a school's Parent Teacher Association.

Brian M. Smith, 39, worked at Parkway Elementary School in St. Joseph. KQ2 reported Smith also used to serve as treasurer of the Parkway Elementary PTA.

Police allege Smith used the PTA's debit card from November 2016 to January 2018 to make dozens of unauthorized purchases or ATM withdrawals totaling $10,869, the television station reported.

In a statement to media outlets, the St. Joseph School District said Smith no longer works for the school. The district said it contacted police in February after learning of the missing PTA funds.

The case is being investigated by the St. Joseph Police Department.

A court date has not yet been scheduled.
