Update: Phone service has been restored.

Phones lines in parts of Johnson County are down.

The problem is known to be affecting the city of Lenexa and Lenexa police and also the Leawood Chamber of Commerce.

Lenexa city spokeswoman Denise Rendina said Wednesday morning that all inbound and outbound calling on the city's telephone system were down.

This is a confirmed outage with the city's service provider, Consolidated Communications, and they were working to repair the issue.

However, Rendina said it does not affect 911 emergency calls.

The city's information technology department said it would send an update when service is fully restored.

The full extent of the problem was not immediately apparent, and officials with Consolidated Communications could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Lenexa city website is also down. That's a separate vendor and a different problem and the city was also working to get that resolved.

The Leawood Chamber sent out an email saying its phone system was down. But the phones at Leawood City Hall are working.
