Woman putting air in tires is stabbed to death, MI cops say. Now, man convicted
A man has been convicted in the 2023 fatal stabbing of Cheryl Ryan-Parsley, who Michigan authorities say was killed as she was putting air in her tires.
The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said 33-year-old Shane Burns was found guilty of nine charges, including first-degree pre-meditated murder, following the May 17, 2023, incident.
Parsley’s throat was slit as she was in the parking lot of Belle Tire in Roseville, according to McClatchy News reporting.
She chose Belle Tire because the air was free, her husband told WDIV.
“I wish I would have never let her go because if I would have stopped and paid for it, she’d be alive right now,” Larry Parsley told the station.
Burns then went to a St. Clair Shores bus stop, where he stabbed a 42-year-old man multiple times, the prosecutor said. The second victim survived.
Officers in Warren arrested Burns later that day, according to a June 6 news release from the prosecutor’s office.
“While in custody at the Roseville Police Department, Burns was biting his wrists,” the prosecutor said. “An officer ordered him to stop, and a struggle ensued. Burns was able to grab a knife from the officer and slit his own wrist.”
Following a six-day trial that concluded June 5, Burns was convicted of all nine charges — first-degree pre-meditated murder, assault with intent to murder, multiple firearm charges and more, according to the prosecutor.
His sentencing scheduled for July 24, Burns faces a mandatory life sentence in prison, officials said.
Ryan-Parsley had been married for 23 years. WDIV reported.
She was described by her daughter as a “pure, great-hearted person.”
“This is just ruthless,” Jennifer Ryan told WXYZ. “I mean, who does this? Who does this to somebody who was minding their own business?”
Roseville is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Detroit.
