Oklahoma City police officer rescues chicken crossing the road
An Oklahoma City police officer witnessed a scene so fowl at a busy city intersection Sunday night that he filmed it and posted it on Facebook.
He saw a chicken crossing the road.
It used the crosswalk.
What the cluck?
"You know, just 'cause we're in the big city don't mean we don't have small-town problems," the officer, from the city's southwest division, said in the video. "There's literally a chicken at 10th and Portland, and he's crossing the road."
The chicken, little, was such an unusual sight that a local TV station sent out a crew to drive around the area and find its home.
KFOR in Oklahoma City reported that it found "plenty of spacious backyards but there was not one farm in sight."
The video, posted on the police department's Facebook page, has been shared more than 2,000 times and attracted hundreds of comments.
People are enthralled by the mystery. Why did the chicken cross the road?
"She was reporting to work at KFC."
"Because he had warrants out."
"She crossed the road to prove to the armadillo that it could be done!"
"I just hope they don't grill her."
The police found no motive.
"For those asking no, our investigation did not reveal why the chicken crossed the road," the department wrote. "We tried to interview the chicken, but she lawyered up. #FifthAmendment."
Authorities released no further information, other than to reassure concerned citizens that the hen is safe and sound, and apparently escaped "grilling."
Good to know, considering her rescuer was Officer Cook.
