TheChat: Now Donald Trump is taking on every elected politician IN THE COUNTRY

Good morning.

▪ “They look at these beautiful buildings, these beautiful halls and all of a sudden they become impotent. Is that an appropriate word? I think so.” — Donald Trump taking on the nation’s political class.

In a big applause line in a visit to Dubuque, Iowa, Trump said he wants to ban Teleprompters. Trump is doubling down, not backing down.

▪ “We do have a homeless veterans problem in the country. We had a veteran suicide problem in the country. Both of those need to be dealt with.” — Missouri Sen. Roy Blunt, a Republican, speaking in Columbia.

A mid-Missouri organization is still working to raise funds for a new veterans housing complex and shelter in Columbia that would help with both of those issues. Blunt supports it. (link via

▪ “Be smart & live in reality.” — Missouri state Rep. Brandon Ellington, a Kansas City Democrat, outlining recommendations for dealing with the intern harassment crisis in Jeff City.

Ellington’s other advice outlined in a memo to Statehouse staff: “Don’t have sex, send sexual messages, naked pictures or anything sexual to intern. No sexting. No asking for sex.” He added that punishing interns would be the wrong move.

▪ “Hillary is getting her pantsuit in a twist over nothing.” — Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach on Facebook arguing with Democrat Hillary Clinton over her accusation that Kobach is about to remove the names of more than 34,000 suspended voters from voter rolls.

Kobach insisted that he’s not purging voters who don’t supply proof of citizenship within 90 days. Those folks simply have to fill out voting forms a second time. “Oh the horror!” Kobach wrote.
