Most of the chatter after Thursday evening’s inauguration of Mark Holland as the new mayor of Wyandotte County had nothing to do with his agenda.
Rather, the talk was about who

That would be Ann Murguia, who lost the race for mayor to Holland earlier this month.
Murguia, whose current term on the Unified Government Commission runs at least two more years, was the only one of the 10 commissioners who didn’t make it for Thursday’s ceremonies, which included the swearing in of five commissioners who also won this month.
Her chair remained conspiculously vacant.
A government spokesman said Murguia reportedly was on vacation. The answering message on her cell phone indicated that she was out of the country and was returning Friday.
But more than one WyCo insider suggested that Murguia probably would have attended the event had she won the mayor’s office.
