Missouri state Sen. Jason Holsman said Monday that he recently took a look at running for lieutenant governor in 2016, but has backed away from the race — for now.
The Kansas City Democrat said running against three-term incumbent Republican Peter Kinder would be difficult, given Kinder’s track record of winning even in difficult years for Republicans.
“There’s no reason to give up a state Senate seat to run against Peter Kinder,” Holsman said.
For now, Holsman said he’s planning on seeking a second term in the state Senate seat in 2016. But he also noted that if the political picture changes, he could switch gears.
