How much difference did it make for the country to have its first black president when it comes to race relations?
Zippo, says Missouri Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, a Kansas City Democrat who was asked by The Hill newspaper to talk about it.
“In terms of people feeling much better in regards to race — no, that's not happened, and I don't know any thoughtful people who think it has,” said Cleaver, the former head of the Congressional Black Caucus.
But he’s not placing the blame on the president.
“Whether he addresses the issues or not is not going to change the reality of the era,” Cleaver said.
