Union Pacific saves Kansas Citians time and trouble in 1940

“The train’s a time-and-trouble saver for short trips!” said this ad, which appeared in The Kansas City Star on April 23, 1940. And for only $2.40, sitting in the air conditioning and not having to park a car sounds like a good deal.

Union Pacific quit carrying passengers in 1971, but you can still get to Topeka via Amtrak. And it can still be quite a bargain — as low as $28 round trip as of this writing.
