American Legion Convention, Nov. 1, 1921
The reviewing stand in front of The Kansas City Star building between the center columns is crowded with decorated men: Gen. Jacques of Belgium, Gen. Armando Diaz of Italy, Vice President Calvin Coolidge, Marshal Ferdinand Foch of France, Gen. John J. Pershing and Adm. David Beatty of Great Britain.
The reviewing stand was a temporary structure, painted in trompe l’oeil style to look like architecture. This was the only time in history all five Allied commanders were ever assembled in one place. They were in Kansas City for the dedication of the Liberty Memorial site.
