. File photo

This photo from The Star’s historical archive first ran on Nov. 22, 1965. Its original caption:

A “Mail Keg” collects the correspondence of Mrs. George Hesse at the Happy Hollow farm near Ozawkie, Kan. The distinctive box was made by Mrs. Hesse’s son, John Hesse, a college student. The hubcap he made for a cover has remained bright, in contrast to the weathering wooden container.
