The full original date on this photo from The Star’s archives is illegible, but the year is clearly 1950. Its original caption:
As the temperature hit 90 yesterday, Mary Turner, 3, and Carl Turner, 12, agreed that it was a good thing the Penny Ice deliveries began, too. They are the children of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Turner, 190 S. Fifth St., Kansas City, Kan., and were being helped to chips of ice by two delivery truck drivers, Alvin Thurman, 1212 Taylor Ave. (on truck) and Daniel Craig, Holliday, Kan. The Salvation Army is assisting in the direction of deliveries and listing families to receive the ice. Money for the ice fund is raised annually at a benefit baseball game in Klamm park.
