Kansas City, Kan., police officers getting an illegally parked and unregistered car ready to be towed Sunday afternoon found a live hand grenade poking out of a velvet bag.
The officers, who were on patrol, found the car shortly after 3 p.m. in the 200 block of South Eighth Street. While completing a tow report, they saw the velvet bag and noticed the grenade.
The department’s explosive ordnance team responded to the area and removed the grenade from the car so the explosive could be disposed of. No other explosives were found in the car.
Once the grenade was removed, the car was towed.
