Prison is ordered after embezzlement from KC construction company

The former information technology director for a major Kansas City construction company was sentenced Thursday to 15 months in prison for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars in company funds.

Rodney J. Tatum Jr., 44, of Branson, Mo., formerly of Kansas City, was sentenced in U.S. District Court, where he previously pleaded guilty to a count of mail fraud.

Tatum was a longtime employee of Clarkson Construction Co. and was IT director when he began using company funds to buy computer and communications equipment that he then resold for his own profit.

As part of Thursday’s sentencing, he was ordered to pay restitution of $442,810. He made a payment of $62,000 toward restitution at Thursday’s sentencing.
