Homeless man is arrested after damaging KC police vehicle — again

For the third time in two months, a homeless man intentionally damaged a Kansas City police vehicle because he wanted go to jail to have a warm place to stay and something to eat.

At 12:45 p.m. Saturday, a man walked into the lobby of Central Patrol Division at 1200 E. Linwood Blvd. and confessed that he had just damaged a police vehicle parked in the station lot.

An officer went outside and noticed a broken taillight and some minor paint damage on a patrol vehicle. After police arrested the man for property damage, he announced he was homeless and wanted to go to jail for warmth and food, police said.

In January, police arrested the same man after he hurled a brick that smashed the headlight of a Kansas City police vehicle parked outside the Central Patrol Division. He then told an officer he was cold and wanted to go to jail because he didn’t like the shelters.
