A 22-year-old Kansas City man was charged Friday with assaulting a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier.
Willie A. Rimpson allegedly grabbed the woman in a chokehold as she made her rounds Wednesday afternoon in the 3800 block of Myrtle Avenue, according to the charges filed in federal court.
She told investigators that Rimpson grabbed her after she had handed him his mail and asked her, “Where’s my check?”
The letter carrier was able to break free and continue her rounds. But when she approached her vehicle, Rimpson allegedly put his hands up in a boxing stance and refused to let her pass.

He wrestled her away from the vehicle, and they struggled until she again broke free, got in the vehicle and drove away, according to court documents.
When questioned later, Rimpson said he was just playing around and “tussling” with her. When asked about several scratch marks on his arms, Rimpson said he had done it to himself earlier that day, according to court documents.
