Man shot to death, pickup stolen in KC’s Northeast area

Police said Monday they are trying find out who shot and killed a 52-year-old man whose pickup truck they found.

Thomas E. Kuzila Jr. was found fatally shot early Saturday in the 100 block of Brooklyn Avenue. Police investigating the sound of shots found Kuzila’s body in an alley. Investigators think Kuzila’s pickup truck was stolen after the shooting.

No other details were released on Monday.

Kuzila was a journeyman with Pipefitters Local 533. His family declined to comment.

A co-worker, Brad Weilmuenster, said he met Kuzila about two years ago when he moved to the Kansas City area. He was partnered up with Kuzila for about three months and they stayed friends afterward.

“He was a great man,” Weilmuenster said. “If he called you friend, there was no doubt in your mind the guy was sincere.”

Despite knowing Kuzila only a short time, Weilmuenster said he felt a great loss when he heard that Kuzila’s death.

“He was one of the good ones,” Weilmuenster said.
