Pedestrian dies after being struck by one or more hit-and-run drivers in south Kansas City
A pedestrian died after being struck by one or more hit-and-run drivers while crossing Blue Ridge Boulevard Wednesday evening in south Kansas City, a police spokesperson said.
The crash occurred about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday at 103rd Terrace and Blue Ridge Boulevard on the border of Kansas City’s Stratford Estates and Hickman Mills South neighborhoods, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.
The pedestrian was crossing Blue Ridge from west to east. At least one vehicle struck a pedestrian while he was in the middle of the southbound lanes.
The driver or drivers who struck the pedestrian failed to stop and left before police arrived, Gonzalez said. The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was declared dead at the scene.
No vehicle or driver descriptions were released. Gonzalez said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
The pedestrian’s death is the 81st traffic fatality of the year. That compares to 85 traffic fatalities by this time last year.
