An 18-year-old Kansas City man was charged with second-degree murder Saturday in the shooting death of 16-year-old Tyson L. White in Grandview on Tuesday.
Authorities say Ja'Quann L. McCarver allegedly shot White as the victim exited McCarver's vehicle after the two had met to discuss the purchase of a gun.
Witnesses told Grandview police that White and McCarver had arranged to meet that afternoon in the parking lot at White's apartment building the 11900 block of Holiday Drive.
Police said McCarver told them that he had agreed to sell White a handgun for $150, but decided to keep the gun and the money and told White to get out of the case.

According to the probable cause statement, McCarver said he fired the gun "to scare White" as he was exiting, not kill him.
