A man took his own life Wednesday in Overland Park as authorities were attempting to serve him with a warrant.
The incident occurred at a residence near Goodman Street and 142nd Terrace, according to a release from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office. Deputies saw a man inside the house and then heard a gunshot at about 3:15 p.m.
Deputies exited the residence, according to the release, evacuated nearby residents and set up a perimeter.
The Sheriff's Emergency Response Team responded for a barricaded subject. But more than five hours later, at about 8:30 p.m., deputies entered the home and found the man dead of "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
