Bullets from a gun battle through Kansas City streets injured two adults, damaged a school bus occupied with children and struck at least one home.
The gunfire took place in the 4500 block of Elmwood Avenue on Thursday shortly before 5 p.m. No suspects are in custody, and police released no suspect information Thursday evening.
Two adults were injured in the gunfire. The individuals — a man and a woman — are expected to survive, said Lionel Colón, a spokesman for Kansas City police. He added it is unclear if they are bystanders.
One of the victims drove to a fire station off Linwood and Indiana for medical help.
“In the process of that gun battle, a school bus was nearby and also took a bullet,” Colón said.
He added that at least five children were on the bus. None was injured.
Shortly after the shooting, investigators were at a home near 45th and Lawn streets. The facade of the house had about a dozen bullet holes.
“Be safe and put the guns away,” Colón said.
