A 39-year-old Mississippi woman is charged with pepper-spraying several Overland Park police officers when they tried to arrest her for shoplifting at Oak Park Mall.
Latrina K. Newsome appeared Monday afternoon in Johnson County District Court where she is charged with three felony counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of misdemeanor theft.
Her bond is set at $75,000.
The incident occurred Friday afternoon when officers moved in to arrest Newsome and a man with her for allegedly stealing merchandise from a store.

Police said that both resisted arrest, and Newsome allegedly sprayed two of the officers with pepper spray before she was subdued.
A third officer was also battered in the incident. All three were treated at a hospital and released.
The man fled and police were not able to find him.
He remained at large Monday, according to police.
