Police investigate Kansas City, North, shooting victim
Kansas City police are investigating a fatal shooting after a man was found dead inside a business early Saturday morning.
The Kansas City Police Department said a business in the 4000 block of North Oak Trafficway was the scene of the shooting and a victim described as a black man in his 40s was found dead there at 1:48 a.m. after police responded to a call.
Police were investigating inside Our Lifestylez, a clothing store, Saturday morning. A police spokesperson confirmed via email that that is where the body was found.
The store is located in the middle of a strip mall anchored by a Pizza Hut on one end and an ATV and scooter repair shop on the other.
A man who owns a nearby business and was at the scene Saturday said it’s generally a safe area.
“It’s not bad,” said the business owner, who said he didn’t want to be identified publicly. “I’ve been here eight-and-a-half years and I haven’t had any real problems.”
The business owner said everything in the area was likely to be closed at the time when the shooting was reported.
In 2015, police found a man shot to death just after midnight in a McDonald’s parking lot on that same block in Kansas City, North.
The city is on pace this year to match its 1993 record of 153 homicides.
