A 49-year-old Pleasant Valley man is charged with shooting another man after they drank whiskey together and got in a physical altercation.
Keith L. King is charged in Clay County Circuit Court with first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
The victim was shot in the shoulder and his injuries were not considered not life-threatening.
The shooting occurred Friday night in the 7800 block of Walnut Street.
The victim told police that King invited him to over to his house where they had several shots of whiskey before King challenged him to box, according to court documents.
The man said he wrestled King to the ground, but after letting him up, King began hitting him.
When the victim hit him back, he said King went and retrieved a handgun and told him to leave before shooting him, according to the documents.
King told police that the victim had punched him in the head and they fought. He said he fired one warning shot, but when the man wouldn’t leave, he shot him.
