The number of Kansas City’s homicides continued to climb at an alarming rate after Michael Holmes, 27, of Kansas City was fatally wounded at a house late Sunday.

Holmes’ homicide brings the city’s count above 60 homicides for the year. Last year, which ended up being an unusually deadly year in Kansas City, there were 45 homicides by this time.

Police responded to the latest homicide just after 11 p.m. Sunday. Callers reported a shooting at a house in the 4200 block of Monroe Avenue.

Emergency crews rushed Holmes to a hospital, where he died a short time later.
