A Clinton man is recovering after being shot by a police officer after the suspect allegedly pointed a gun at the officer.
Danny Lee Jones, 35, was arrested late Friday on suspicion of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer and armed criminal action.
According to Clinton Police, Jones was taken by ambulance to Research Medical Center in Kansas City where he was treated for a gunshot wound and then admitted to the hospital for an illness unrelated to the wound.
The officer was not injured and was placed on routine paid administrative leave, authorities said.
The shooting was reported about 11:45 p.m.
According to police, a Clinton police officer confronted a man who was standing on a second-story balcony at a home in Clinton. When the man raised a gun and pointed it at the officer the man was shot in the leg.
Officers took the man into custody and rendered medical aid until an ambulance arrived.
The shooting is still under investigation, police said.
