Police have released the name of a 60-year-old woman found shot and killed Thursday night at a home in northeastern Kansas City.

Rene Austin was found dead from apparent gunshot wounds shortly before 10 p.m. in an apartment in the 400 block of Booth Avenue, according to Kansas City police, who are investigating the case as a homicide.

Capt. Stacey Graves, a Kansas City police spokeswoman, said on Friday that the shooting death of a woman that age was unusual. Graves said detectives worked through the night after police discovered the body.

The investigation continued.

The Kansas City area has recorded 141 homicides in 2016, including 90 in Kansas City.
